Witch's potion made from blood orange juice, ginger and lime with floating eyeballs made of peeled grapes and raisins. A vegan, alcohol-free Halloween drink mixed from juices.
You’ll need: chopping board · knife · sieve · grater
A deep red potion with eyeballs floating in it: peeled grapes with a raisin pupil are an old party trick that makes children squeal. Blood orange gives the colour, ginger the heat. Frozen, the eyeballs chill the potion like ice cubes.
Blood orange juice → orange juice with a splash of cherry juice (same colour). Sparkling water → cold hibiscus tea (more tart). Grapes → lychees. Ginger → a pinch of cinnamon (milder for children).
Seedless green grapes are easy to peel after a quick soak in boiling water. Chilled juice keeps the bubbles longer.
Without the sparkling water, it keeps for 2 days in the fridge; the grape eyeballs keep for 1 month in the freezer.
Vegan, gluten-free, no milk, egg, nuts or caffeine. For small children, cut the grapes into quarters lengthways (or leave them out) so they can't choke on them; fine in pregnancy.
