Digital pantry: keep track of your food and use up leftovers

Smart pantry app, free to start: add food by barcode, see what expires soon and cook recipes with what you have – on iPhone and in your browser.

See what’s at home, what expires soon – and what you can cook with it.

At a glance

How it works

  1. Add your food – Type or say it – with a free account also by barcode.
  2. See what’s due – Anything expiring in the next 3 days is at the top.
  3. Cook with it – “What can I cook?” shows recipes that use it up.

Why use a pantry app?

The opened jar of pesto at the back of the fridge, the third pack of passata because you weren’t sure: if you don’t know what’s there, you buy twice and throw more away. A pantry app replaces guessing with a list you always have with you – in the supermarket too.

Expiry dates at a glance

With a date you know what comes first. Anything expiring in the next 3 days sits at the top under “Use soon”, with “use by tomorrow” or how many days are left. With a free account the app can send you a notification when something expires today or tomorrow.

Good to know: a best-before date isn’t a throw-away date. Many foods are still fine afterwards – look, smell, taste. For meat, fish and anything with a use-by date, the date counts.

Using up leftovers: what can I cook?

One tap on “Use soon” shows recipes from our collection that use exactly those ingredients. If nothing fits, the Recipe Finder takes your ingredients – the ones expiring soonest first.

When you fill your week in the Meal Planner, food that expires soon comes up first. When you shop, things you already have are listed under “In your pantry” on your Shopping List.

In short

A digital pantry takes a few minutes at first: add your shopping or take it from the list. In return you always see what’s there, buy twice less often and cook what would otherwise be left.

Frequently asked questions

What is a smart pantry?

A digital pantry: you see what’s at home and when it expires, and get recipes that use exactly that. In SmarTasty it’s called Pantry.

Is there an app that reminds me of expiry dates?

Yes. In the SmarTasty Pantry you save food with its expiry date. Anything expiring in the next 3 days sits at the top. With a free account the app can send you a notification when something expires today or tomorrow.

Does the barcode scanner work in the browser?

Yes, with a free account – on your phone and on a computer with a camera. The browser asks once whether SmarTasty may use the camera. Without an account or a camera, you add food by hand.

How does my food get into the app?

You type or say it. With a free account you can also scan a barcode or take a photo of your receipt (receipt photos: once a week without Premium). Ticked-off items from your Shopping List move over in one tap – or automatically.
