What SmarTasty does
Logging – Calories from a photo, a barcode or one sentence – typed or spoken (speaking on iPhone). You check the values before saving.
Recipes – Checked recipes with no seed oils, refined sugar or pork, with nutrition per serving.
Meal Planner – Plan your week in a tap or let it fill itself – matched to your calorie goal and way of eating. The ingredients go onto your Shopping List in one tap.
Recipe Import – Save recipes from Instagram Reels, TikTok and food blogs by link – or snap a cookbook page.
Supplements – Add your supplements and tick them off each day. They count towards your vitamins and minerals.
Health Score – A number from 0 to 100 for every recipe and your day – worked out with fixed rules from nutrition and ingredients.

Whether you want to eat lighter, build muscle or stay where you are – for your weight, what counts in the end is the energy balance: how much energy you take in and how much you use. A calorie tracker, or calorie counter, shows what you would otherwise only guess.
Many people underestimate how many calories they eat in a day. Nuts, olive oil and avocado pack a lot of calories into a small amount. A calorie counter app shows you this and helps you stick to a calorie deficit or surplus.
Eat intuitively – and still count?
“I just eat when I’m hungry.” That works well for many people. If you have a goal, though, portions are often off. A calorie counter isn’t a watchdog but a yardstick. After a few weeks you get a better feel for how big a portion is.
More than calories: your macros
The calorie number alone says little about what’s on your plate. That’s why the tracker also shows the three macronutrients (macros):
Protein: found in quark, eggs, fish, pulses and tofu, for example. If you train, you often keep a close eye on this one.
Carbohydrates: provide much of your energy, from bread, rice, potatoes and fruit, for example.
Fat: found in oil, nuts, cheese and fish – and has the most calories per gram.
SmarTasty doesn’t show these values in long tables but as simple coloured bars. For every dish you see how much protein, carbs and fat it brings.
Common calorie-counting mistakes
Logging every ingredient separately. You cook a curry with 15 ingredients and log each one. In SmarTasty the tracker is linked to recipes and the Meal Planner: open the recipe, tap “Log” – and the whole dish lands in your Food Diary with its macros.
Guessing portion sizes. “A medium apple” or “a heaped tablespoon” of peanut butter aren’t exact units. A tablespoon can be 15 g or 30 g – that’s around 90 kcal difference. Weigh the calorie-dense things like oil, nuts and nut butter, at least for the first few weeks.
Water: easy to forget
Many people drink too little during the day. In the tracker you log a glass with a tap until you reach your daily goal.
Tracking as a tool, not a must
We don’t believe in crash diets. A macro tracker shouldn’t make you afraid of food but show you where you stand. Pizza and chocolate can be part of it – the tracker shows how they fit into your day.
Over time you get a feel for portions, until you may not need the diary every day. Start for free with SmarTasty.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a calorie counter without banner ads or a subscription?
Yes. The calorie tracker is free and has no banner ads: logging by text, barcode and search with no limit, plus 1 photo a day. You do not need a subscription – Premium is optional.
Can I take a photo of my food to count calories?
Yes. SmarTasty recognises the dish and portion in the photo and estimates the nutrition; before saving, you check and change anything. For packaged products the barcode scanner takes the values from the label.
Can I use the calorie tracker to eat lighter?
Yes. Let the app work out your calorie goal from your height, weight and activity level, choose a gentle or steady pace and follow your progress in the weekly review.
Can I log my food in one sentence or by speaking?
Yes. Just type “two eggs and a slice of bread with butter” – SmarTasty recognises the parts and estimates the values; you check them before saving. In the iPhone app you can also say the sentence; recognition runs on your device.
