Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: saucepan · wooden spoon

  1. Get the oats, almond milk, turmeric powder, Ceylon cinnamon, black pepper and almond butter ready.
  2. Gently warm the almond milk in a small pan. Stir in the oats and let them swell over a low heat for 5–7 min until the porridge is creamy.
  3. Add the turmeric powder, Ceylon cinnamon and black pepper. Stir everything thoroughly so the spices are evenly spread through the porridge.
  4. Stir in the almond butter and keep simmering the porridge gently until creamy. Stir now and then so nothing sticks.
  5. Take the porridge off the hob and let it stand briefly. This makes the texture a little fuller.
  6. Serve hot and finish with a little extra Ceylon cinnamon if you like.

Good to know

A porridge like this feels like a relaxed start to the day. Warm, soft and pleasantly spiced. On cool mornings especially, it's really comforting.

Swaps

Almond milk → unsweetened coconut milk from a carton (a little more fat, often creamier). Almond butter → cashew butter (milder flavour, also with unsaturated fats). Gluten-free oats → millet flakes (naturally gluten-free, with minerals). Almond milk → unsweetened oat milk (slightly fuller flavour, usually a few more carbs).

Allergens

Contains tree nuts from the almond milk and almond butter. With certified gluten-free oats it's gluten-free; suitable for children with mild spicing, and fine during pregnancy in normal kitchen amounts.
