Method

You’ll need: chopping board · knife

  1. Cut the Medjool dates open lengthways and remove the stone if there still is one.
  2. Open the dates out a little and fill them with smooth peanut butter.
  3. Smooth the peanut butter with a small spoon so each date is well filled.
  4. Finally, sprinkle a few sea salt flakes over the filled dates.
  5. If you like, chill the dates briefly so the peanut butter firms up a little.
  6. Serve straight away and enjoy as a sweet-and-salty snack.

Good to know

When it needs to be quick, this little snack is just right. Sweet, salty and pleasantly chewy. With no real effort at all.

Swaps

Peanut butter → almond butter (also provides unsaturated fats and some vitamin E; contains tree nuts); peanut butter → cashew butter (milder flavour, a little creamier; contains tree nuts); Medjool dates → Deglet Nour dates (a little less soft and usually smaller); sea salt flakes → cinnamon (no salt, but an aromatic note)

Allergens

Contains peanuts, so it isn't suitable for people with a peanut allergy. For children, only offer it in an age-appropriate, small and safe form because of the sticky texture; in pregnancy, the ingredients are an everyday part of a normal diet.
