Ingredients
1 papaya
1 unwaxed lime
2 tbsp hemp seeds
150 ml water
1 bunch of mint
Method
You’ll need: blender · chopping board · knife
Halve the papaya, scoop out the seeds and cut the flesh away from the skin.
Pick the mint leaves from the stalks and squeeze the lime.
Put the papaya, mint, lime juice, hemp seeds and water in a blender.
Blend everything until the smoothie is creamy and even. If you like it thinner, add a little more water.
Have a quick taste. For extra freshness, add a little more lime juice.
Serve the vegan papaya and mint smoothie straight away in glasses, topped with a few mint leaves if you like.
Good to know
Some smoothies are just sweet. This one is fruity, fresh and pleasantly simple in flavour. Just right when you want something refreshing in a glass.
Swaps
Hemp seeds → cashew butter (makes the smoothie creamier and provides unsaturated fatty acids; contains tree nuts). Mint → lemon balm (just as fresh, with a mild aroma). Water → coconut water (also contains potassium). Lime → orange (milder, slightly sweeter and also contains vitamin C).
Allergens
Allergic reactions to hemp seeds are rare but possible. In small portions, the smoothie suits children, and in pregnancy the ingredients are fine in normal kitchen amounts.
