Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: blender · mixing bowl

  1. Let the mango, banana and pineapple thaw slightly so they blend more evenly. Check the goji berries briefly if needed and use them dry.
  2. Put the frozen fruit in the blender with the coconut milk, ground turmeric and 1 pinch of black pepper. Blend everything until the mixture is thick and creamy.
  3. If the bowl is too firm, add a little coconut milk. If it's too runny, blend in a little more frozen mango or banana.
  4. Spoon the smoothie base into a bowl. Sprinkle with chia seeds, goji berries and coconut chips.
  5. If you like, leave the bowl to stand for a minute so the chia seeds swell slightly. This makes the surface a little thicker and easier to spoon.
  6. Serve straight away and enjoy it cold.

Good to know

This bowl is sunny, creamy and pleasantly spiced. It tastes fresh and well-rounded – a bit like breakfast on holiday.

Swaps

Goji berries → blueberries (less sugar, often easier to find locally) ½ banana → ½ avocado (creamier, much less sugar) 100 ml coconut milk → unsweetened coconut yoghurt (creamier, often a little more protein) Chia seeds → hemp seeds (mild flavour, a little protein)

Allergens

The bowl is naturally dairy-free but, depending on the product, may contain traces of nuts. Chia seeds and goji berries only make sense for small children in a suitable amount and texture, and during pregnancy goji products should only come from a reliable source.

Frequently asked questions

Which vitamins are mainly in mango and pineapple?

Both fruits mainly provide vitamin C. Mango also contains carotenoids, which are precursors of vitamin A.

Which nutrients do chia seeds bring to this bowl?

Chia seeds contain fibre, alpha-linolenic acid as a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid, and minerals such as calcium and magnesium. They also make the bowl a little thicker.

Is turmeric relevant nutritionally in a bowl like this?

Turmeric contains secondary plant compounds, mainly curcuminoids. The amount used here is about flavour and colour – together with the black pepper, it gives the bowl its warm, earthy note.

Do goji berries agree with everyone?

In small amounts they usually do; they provide fibre and a little vitamin C. Some people are sensitive to dried berries, especially if they have a sensitive stomach or rarely eat dried fruit.
