Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: blender · chopping board · knife · sieve

  1. Peel the kiwis and cut them into rough chunks. Wash the pear, remove the core and chop it small as well.
  2. Pick the basil leaves off the stalks and wash them briefly. Leave them to drain well.
  3. Put the kiwi, pear and basil into the blender. Add the hemp seeds and oat milk.
  4. Blend everything until the smoothie is smooth and creamy. If you like it thinner, add another small splash of oat milk.
  5. Taste briefly. If the kiwi is very tart, a little more pear works well.
  6. Pour the vegan kiwi and basil smoothie into glasses and serve straight away. A few basil leaves on top look lovely.

Good to know

This smoothie tastes like fresh morning light. Fruity, green and pleasantly mild. Basil makes it special without stealing the show.

Swaps

Oat milk → unsweetened almond milk (usually a little thinner and mild in flavour); Pear → apple (also provides fibre); Hemp seeds → cashew butter (makes the smoothie creamier and provides unsaturated fatty acids); Basil → mint (fresh flavour, similarly light and green)

Allergens

Oat milk contains gluten unless it's certified gluten-free, and kiwi can trigger reactions in sensitive people; usually well suited to children in small portions, and generally fine during pregnancy, as long as everything is fresh and cleanly prepared. Contains: gluten (oats).
