Wash the carrots and only cut off the tops. Quarter the apples.
Peel the oranges and remove as much of the white pith as you can. Peel the ginger too.
Put the carrots and apples through the juicer first – it usually runs more smoothly that way.
Then juice the ginger and finally the oranges. Give the juice a quick stir.
Pass the juice through a sieve if you like it smoother. You can also chill it briefly.
Pour the juice into glasses and drink it as fresh as possible.
Good to know
A juice like this tastes of a fresh kitchen. Sweet and juicy, with a little ginger heat that brings it all to life.
Swaps
Apple → pear (usually milder), orange → blood orange (similar vitamin C profile, a little more bitter), ginger → turmeric (much earthier flavour), carrot → beetroot (contains folate, earthy sweetness)
Allergens
The recipe is free from the most common allergens. Orange or ginger can be a little harsh on a sensitive stomach, and it's milder for children if you use less ginger; during pregnancy, normal kitchen amounts of these ingredients are generally unremarkable.
