Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: blender

  1. Put the frozen banana, blueberries, almond butter and almond milk into the blender.
  2. Blend everything until creamy, to a thick, smooth mixture. If the blender stalls, add a small splash of almond milk.
  3. Spoon the smoothie mixture into a shallow bowl and smooth the top.
  4. Scatter over the walnuts, fresh berries and chia seeds.
  5. Leave to stand briefly so the toppings settle and the bowl stays nice and cold.
  6. Serve straight away and eat it right out of the bowl.

Good to know

When mornings need to be quick, this bowl is a really good solution. Cold, creamy and pleasantly fruity. It looks simple, but it has plenty of depth in flavour.

Swaps

Almond milk → unsweetened oat milk (a few more carbs, often milder in flavour; contains gluten unless certified gluten-free); almond butter → cashew butter (similarly creamy, a little milder); blueberries → raspberries (more fibre per serving); walnuts → pumpkin seeds (also crunchy, provide magnesium).

Allergens

Contains tree nuts (almond milk, almond butter, walnuts); chia seeds are unfamiliar for some sensitive people, so use them sparingly for children, and during pregnancy the ingredients are common – of course adapt them if you have allergies or intolerances. If you're pregnant, and for children and older people, boil frozen blueberries for 2 minutes first and let them cool.
