Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: oven · baking dish · chopping board · knife

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C (180 °C fan) and wash the figs thoroughly. Halve them lengthways.
  2. Place the figs cut side up in a small baking dish. Bake at 200 °C for 12–15 min, until soft and releasing a little juice.
  3. Take the dish out of the oven and let the figs cool briefly. That way the almond butter stays nice and creamy and doesn't run straight off.
  4. Spread the almond butter over the warm fig halves. Sprinkle everything with cinnamon, salt and cacao nibs.
  5. If you like, let the figs stand for a moment longer. The flavours then come together a little more roundly.
  6. Serve the baked figs lukewarm straight from the dish or on small plates.

Good to know

This dessert is understated, warm and rather elegant. The figs turn soft and intense in the oven, joined by the bitter note of cocoa. Little effort, lots of enjoyment.

Swaps

Almond butter → cashew butter (similarly creamy, a little milder in flavour); cacao nibs → chopped walnuts (more omega-3 fatty acids and a nutty bite); cinnamon → vanilla (milder, with a sweet note); figs → pears (also contain fibre and turn nicely juicy when baked).

Allergens

Contains almonds (tree nuts) and, depending on the cacao nibs, may contain traces of other nuts; for children serve fairly finely chopped, and during pregnancy the ingredients are usually unproblematic as long as they're well washed and agree with you.
