Good to know

In many Arab countries, coffee is brewed with cardamom. This Advent version steeps cardamom, cinnamon and orange zest with the ground coffee in the pot. The honey milk on top rounds it off.

Swaps

Milk → oat milk (then maple syrup instead of honey; labelled gluten-free). Cardamom → star anise. Orange zest → mandarin zest. Ground coffee → decaffeinated ground coffee.

Cooking tips

Only lightly crush the cardamom pods; that way they release their aroma without turning bitter.

Storage

Best drunk fresh; the spiced coffee turns bitter if it stands.

Allergens

Contains milk; no gluten, egg or nuts. Coffee contains caffeine and isn't for children; in pregnancy, have no more than 200 mg caffeine a day (about two cups of coffee), from all sources combined.
