  1. Drain the tuna well in a sieve and flake it with a fork in a bowl.
  2. Halve the avocado, remove the stone and dice the flesh.
  3. Peel the red onion and chop it finely so its flavour stays milder in the salad.
  4. Add the avocado and red onion to the tuna and mix everything gently.
  5. Stir in the lemon juice, olive oil and salt until the salad is evenly dressed.
  6. Plate up the tuna avocado salad fresh and serve straight away.

Good to know

When it needs to be quick, this salad is just right. Creamy, fresh and satisfying without feeling heavy. The kind of dish that always fits, no fuss.

Swaps

Tuna → tinned wild salmon (also provides protein and omega-3 fatty acids); avocado → cucumber (fresher and higher in water); red onion → spring onion (milder in flavour); olive oil → avocado oil (similar fatty acid profile, more neutral flavour)

Allergens

Contains fish. For children, serve only well broken up and in an age-appropriate way; during pregnancy, use well-sealed, unremarkable tinned fish and follow the general advice on fish types and portion sizes.
