At a glance

Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: blender · juicer · chopping board · knife · grater

  1. Peel the pineapple generously and cut out the hard core in the middle.
  2. Finely grate the unpeeled ginger into a small bowl.
  3. Put the pineapple pieces, grated ginger, ground turmeric and water into the juicer or blender.
  4. Blend everything until fine and pour it through a straining cloth so the fibres stay behind.
  5. Squeeze the cloth firmly and serve the juice as a shot.

Good to know

This bright shot tastes fiery, fruity and fresh. The heat of the ginger and the tang of the pineapple are a real experience.

Swaps

Water → orange juice (if you'd like to tame the strong heat of the ginger a little, stretch the drink with freshly squeezed orange juice).

Cooking tips

Organic ginger never needs peeling. Most of its aromatic essential oils sit in and just under the tough skin.

Storage

Ginger juices get hotter over time because the pungent compounds keep passing into the liquid. Better to make it fresh every day.
