Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: frying pan · chopping board · knife · mixing bowl

  1. Roughly chop the walnuts and toast them briefly in a dry frying pan until fragrant. Then leave them to cool briefly.
  2. Put the soft goat's cheese into a bowl and stir it with a fork until creamy.
  3. Loosely fold the fig jam and honey into the soft goat's cheese. Don't stir it completely smooth, so the marbling stays visible.
  4. Mix in the toasted walnuts and season the spread to taste with salt and pepper.
  5. If you like it a little firmer, chill the spread briefly before serving.
  6. Serve on fresh bread, crackers or warm baguette. Well covered, it keeps in the fridge for about 3 days.

Good to know

Sometimes it's exactly these little, uncomplicated spreads that make a table feel instantly cosier. Creamy, slightly sweet and with a bit of crunch – without much effort.

Swaps

Fig jam → finely chopped dried figs (also provide fibre). Walnuts → pecans (milder, also contain unsaturated fatty acids). Honey → date paste (no added refined sugar, plus a little fibre). Soft goat's cheese → sheep's milk cream cheese (also provides protein and calcium; made from pasteurised milk in pregnancy).

Allergens

Contains milk and tree nuts (walnuts). Because of the honey, not suitable for babies under 12 months, and in pregnancy the soft goat's cheese should be made from pasteurised milk.
