Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: blender · grater

  1. Stone the dates and blend them with the walnuts until you have a sticky mixture.
  2. Finely grate the apple and squeeze out any excess juice well so the mixture stays easier to shape.
  3. Mix the date and walnut mixture with the oats, cinnamon and grated apple until everything is evenly combined.
  4. Leave the mixture to stand briefly so the oats can absorb some moisture.
  5. Shape small balls with your hands and chill them until firmer.
  6. To serve: enjoy straight from the fridge, or pack them in an airtight box to take with you.

Good to know

When you fancy something sweet but want to keep it simple, these energy balls are just right. Soft, full of cinnamon and pleasantly fruity. Ideal for small breaks in between.

Swaps

Walnuts → almonds (also provide vitamin E). Oats → fine millet flakes (naturally gluten-free, depending on the product). Dates → dried figs (also contain calcium). Apple → pear (similarly fruity, slightly milder in flavour).

Allergens

Contains tree nuts (walnuts) and gluten (oats) unless the oats are labelled gluten-free. Fine for children as small, soft balls; in pregnancy, wash the apple well and keep good kitchen hygiene.
