  1. Bring the water to the boil, pour it over the fruit tea and leave it to steep for 8 minutes. Remove the teabags.
  2. Cut the prunes into strips and slit the vanilla pod lengthways.
  3. Put the tea, grape juice, prunes, cinnamon stick, vanilla pod and cloves in a pan and heat everything over a low heat for 15 minutes without letting the punch boil.
  4. Squeeze the lemon, stir in the juice and remove the cinnamon, vanilla and cloves.
  5. Pour the punch with the prune strips into heatproof glasses and put a spoon in each.

Good to know

Prunes infuse in the hot grape juice and give it the flavour of plum butter. Cinnamon, vanilla and cloves turn it into a punch like the ones at the Christmas market. At the end, you spoon the soft pieces of prune out of the glass.

Swaps

Grape juice → cherry juice (more tart). Prunes → soft dried figs. Fruit tea → rooibos tea. Vanilla pod → 1 pinch of vanilla powder.

Cooking tips

Use pitted, unsweetened prunes. For more flavour, leave the prunes to infuse overnight in the cooled punch and heat it up the next day.

Storage

Keeps cooled in the fridge for 3 days; only heat it, don't boil it.

Allergens

Vegan, gluten-free, no milk, egg or nuts. Fruit tea is caffeine-free; suitable for children and in pregnancy.
