  1. Bring the water to the boil with the cinnamon sticks and cloves and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Cut the orange into thin slices.
  3. Take the pan off the heat, add the black tea and the orange slices and leave everything to steep for 4 minutes.
  4. Remove the teabags, pour in the orange juice and warm the tea briefly without letting it boil.
  5. Stir in the honey and pour the tea into four heatproof glasses with handles, adding an orange slice to each.

Good to know

Black tea, orange and cinnamon are the go-to winter drink for the afternoon. A splash of orange juice makes the tea fruity, and the cloves bring a Christmassy aroma. The honey only goes in at the very end.

Swaps

Black tea → rooibos (caffeine-free). Honey → maple syrup (vegan). Orange juice → apple juice. Cloves → cardamom.

Cooking tips

Don't let the black tea steep for longer than 4 minutes, or it will turn bitter. Only add the honey once the tea is no longer boiling.

Storage

Once cooled and without the orange slices, it keeps for 2 days in the fridge; warm it up before drinking.

Allergens

Gluten-free, no milk, egg or nuts. Black tea contains caffeine: rooibos for children. In pregnancy, have no more than 200 mg caffeine a day (about 2 cups of coffee), from all sources combined. Not for babies under 1 year old because of the honey.
