Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: chopping board · knife · mixing bowl

  1. Halve the avocados, remove the stones and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  2. Squeeze the lime, finely chop the garlic and coriander and dice the tomato. Mash the avocado with a fork and mix everything in with the salt and chilli flakes.
  3. Slice the kohlrabi and cut pointed triangles from the slices for teeth; cut the rest and the carrots into sticks.
  4. Cut the radishes into thick slices and put a piece of olive on each as a pupil.
  5. Spread the guacamole in a shallow dish, press the radish eyes into it and stick the kohlrabi teeth around the edge as a mouth.
  6. Add the veg sticks and serve the monster guacamole straight away.

Good to know

With radish eyes and kohlrabi teeth, guacamole turns into a monster peering out of the bowl. The veg for dipping sits right next to it. That way, more veg than crisps ends up on the Halloween table.

Swaps

Kohlrabi → pepper (teeth cut from yellow pepper). Radishes → mozzarella balls (no longer vegan). Lime → lemon. Coriander → flat-leaf parsley.

Cooking tips

Choose avocados that give slightly when pressed. Only mash them roughly so the guacamole stays chunky and the monster gets some texture.

Storage

Serve fresh; with cling film pressed onto the surface, the guacamole keeps for 1 day in the fridge, and the veg sticks in water for 2 days.

Allergens

Vegan, gluten-free, free from milk, egg and nuts. For children, leave out the chilli flakes; suitable in pregnancy – wash the veg well.
