Low-carb grapefruit and ginger juice

Low-carb grapefruit and ginger juice

Low-carb grapefruit and ginger juice with still water. One of the tartest juices around, for those who like it sharp: low in carbs and very intense first thing in the morning.

Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: stick blender · chopping board · knife · sieve · grater

  1. Cut the peel off the grapefruit all the way round, generously, until the flesh is exposed.
  2. Cut out the segments and put them in a tall container with the juice that has run out.
  3. Finely grate the unpeeled ginger over the top.
  4. Add the water, blend everything with a stick blender and pour it through a tea strainer.
  5. Press the pulp in the strainer firmly so as much juice as possible runs into the glass.

Good to know

There are plenty of sweet juices. This sharp morning juice brings together bitterness and heat.

Swaps

Water → coconut water (using some coconut water instead of tap water softens the strong bitterness and adds minerals).

Cooking tips

Remove the thin white pith of the grapefruit too before you blend it. It contains the strongest and often most unpleasant bitter compounds.

Storage

The drink quickly loses its bright pink colour. Always enjoy this bitter morning drink straight after making it.

Allergens

Completely gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan. Contains none of the major allergens.
