Good to know

Lots of people know hot milk with honey from childhood. With a vanilla pod and a cinnamon stick, it becomes a drink for winter evenings. The spices infuse the milk for five minutes – that's all it takes.

Swaps

Milk → oat milk (vegan, then maple syrup instead of honey). Vanilla pod → 1 tsp vanilla extract. Cinnamon stick → a pinch of cardamom. Honey → maple syrup.

Cooking tips

Heat the milk slowly over a medium heat and stir often so it doesn't catch.

Storage

Best drunk fresh; you can dry the scraped-out vanilla pod and use it again.

Allergens

Contains milk; no gluten, egg or nuts. Suitable for children from one year old and in pregnancy; honey isn't suitable for babies under one year old.
