Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: frying pan · saucepan · chopping board · knife · wooden spoon

  1. Bring the oats, milk, salt and speculoos spice to the boil in a pan and simmer everything over a low heat for 5 minutes, stirring often.
  2. Toast the flaked almonds in a dry frying pan for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Peel the orange with a knife and cut out the segments, catching the juice as you go.
  4. Take the pan off the heat and stir the low-fat quark, honey and orange juice into the porridge.
  5. Divide the speculoos porridge between two bowls and top with the orange segments and flaked almonds.

Good to know

Speculoos spice turns a simple porridge into an Advent breakfast. The low-fat quark only goes in at the end, so the porridge stays creamy. Orange segments and toasted almonds add freshness and crunch.

Swaps

Low-fat quark → skyr. Milk → oat milk (a little less protein). Honey → maple syrup. Orange → mandarins or pear.

Cooking tips

Only stir in the quark once the pan is off the heat, or it will curdle. If the porridge is too thick, add a splash of milk.

Storage

Keeps covered in the fridge for 1 day; reheat with a little milk.

Allergens

Contains gluten (oats), milk and almonds; no egg. Suitable for children and in pregnancy; no honey for babies under one year old.
