At a glance

Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: saucepan · chopping board · knife

  1. Briefly blanch the leaf spinach, refresh in cold water and squeeze out very well. The drier the spinach, the neater the filling.
  2. Stir the cream cheese with the spinach, lemon juice, dill, salt, pepper and a little nutmeg until smooth. Finely chop the capers and fold them in, or keep them for garnishing later.
  3. Lay the smoked salmon slices on cling film, slightly overlapping, to form a rectangle. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the top, leaving a little space at the edges.
  4. Use the cling film to roll up the salmon tightly and twist the ends. Chill the roll until it's firmer and can be sliced neatly.
  5. Unwrap the roll and cut it into thick slices. Wipe the knife clean in between if needed.
  6. Arrange on a plate and serve with dill and capers.

Good to know

When you want to keep things simple, this roll is just right. Creamy, fresh and pleasantly savoury. And it looks really impressive on the plate too.

Swaps

Cream cheese → skyr cream cheese or cottage cheese (more protein) | smoked salmon → smoked trout (similar protein content) | leaf spinach → rocket, finely chopped (more bitter compounds and vitamin K) | cling film roll → roll it up in nori (provides iodine, the amount varies by product)

Allergens

Contains fish and milk; for children, only serve finely sliced and mildly seasoned. During pregnancy, cold-smoked salmon is only advised cooked until steaming hot – this roll is served cold, so it's best to skip it then.
