High-protein keema curry with beef mince
High-protein keema curry with beef mince: a spiced one-pot recipe with passata, peas, ginger, garlic and garam masala. Hearty, with plenty of protein and easy for every day.
Finely chop the onion, garlic and ginger. Heat the ghee in a large pan and soften the onion in it until soft and translucent.
Add the garlic and ginger and toast briefly. Stir in the garam masala, turmeric, cumin, ground coriander and cayenne pepper and toast only briefly until fragrant.
Add the beef mince to the pan and fry over a high heat until crumbly and browned all over. Mix everything well so the spices coat the meat evenly.
Stir in the passata and let the curry reduce over a medium heat. Add the peas and keep simmering until the texture is nicely thick and slightly dry.
Season to taste with salt and leave to rest briefly so the flavours come together.
Serve with fresh coriander. Basmati rice or a simple flatbread goes well with it.
Good to know
A keema curry like this is just the thing when it needs to be quick but still taste like real home cooking. Spiced, hearty and nicely satisfying. One of those dishes that's almost even better the next day.
Swaps
Beef mince → lamb mince (similar protein content, stronger in flavour). Ghee → olive oil (more monounsaturated fats). Peas → green beans (a slightly different texture, also with fibre). Passata → tinned chopped tomatoes (more texture, similar nutrients).
Allergens
Contains milk components from the ghee; without ghee, the dish is dairy-free. Reduce the heat for children and always cook the meat through completely; during pregnancy make sure the herbs are fresh and well washed and the kitchen hygiene is good.
