High-protein chocolate avocado smoothie with avocado, almond milk and chocolate protein powder – creamy and quickly blended for an easy start to the day.
You’ll need: blender · chopping board · knife
Chocolatey, creamy and pleasantly mild. This smoothie feels more like a little dessert than a classic shake. That's exactly what makes it so easy.
1/2 ripe avocado → 2 tbsp almond butter (just as creamy, a similar amount of fat) 250 ml unsweetened almond milk → 250 ml organic coconut drink with no additives (check it contains no seed oils) 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder → 1 tsp carob powder (milder, naturally sweeter flavour, caffeine-free)
Contains tree nuts from the almond milk and, depending on the protein powder, milk or soya (ideally choose a powder with no sweeteners). Generally fine for children and in pregnancy, but check the protein powder's ingredients and quality carefully.
Avocado mainly contains monounsaturated fats, especially oleic acid. It also provides fibre and smaller amounts of vitamin E and folate.
Cocoa powder naturally contains polyphenols plus some magnesium and iron. The amounts vary with processing and where the beans come from.
Anyone with an almond allergy, of course. Depending on the brand, it can also contain thickeners or added minerals that not everyone gets on with equally well.
It's worth checking the ingredient list: the protein source, flavourings and emulsifiers vary a lot. Ideally choose a powder with no sweeteners; if you react to milk ingredients, checking is especially important.
Cocoa contains small amounts of caffeine and a little more theobromine. The amount in one smoothie is usually moderate, but sensitive people may still notice it.
