High-protein cherry skyr smoothie

High-protein cherry skyr smoothie with cow's milk. One of the very best: thick, packed with protein, and really creamy and filling without any protein powder.

Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: blender

  1. Pour the milk into the blender and spoon in the skyr.
  2. Make sure the cherries have no stones left, then add them.
  3. Sprinkle the oats over the top.
  4. Blend everything on the highest setting until the cherry skins are broken down.
  5. Pour the shake into a mug and drink it with breakfast.

Good to know

Skyr is a thick, mild fresh cheese from Iceland. Together with deep dark cherries, it makes a shake that tastes of summer and downtime.

Swaps

Cherries → blueberries (blueberries are similarly dark but have less sugar and a milder tartness).

Cooking tips

Ideally, use sour cherries from a jar (without added sugar, in their own juice) instead of sweet cherries, as their acidity makes a great contrast to the thick protein.

Storage

Because of the oats and the dense skyr, the smoothie sets very firm in the fridge. It's then great for eating with a spoon.

Allergens

Contains milk, plus gluten from the oats unless they're certified gluten-free.
