Rinse the brown rice thoroughly and cook it in water until soft but still with a little bite. Meanwhile, cut the beef into thin strips, divide the broccoli into small florets and finely chop the garlic.
Gently heat the ghee in a large frying pan. Sear the beef briefly over a high heat until it takes on colour on the outside, then take it out of the pan.
Add the broccoli and garlic to the pan and cook over a medium heat. Add a small splash of water if needed so the broccoli stays juicy.
Stir the soy sauce and honey together and add to the pan with the beef. Toss everything briefly until the sauce is spread evenly and the meat is cooked.
Fold in the cooked brown rice or serve it separately. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Serve hot and enjoy straight away.
Good to know
When it needs to be quick, this dish is a really good choice. Savoury, balanced and pleasantly uncomplicated. It tastes like proper everyday cooking.
Swaps
Beef → chicken breast (a little milder, similar protein content); brown rice → quinoa (also provides magnesium, slightly more protein); ghee → olive oil (mainly monounsaturated fatty acids); honey → date syrup (also provides small amounts of minerals, stronger flavour)
Allergens
Contains soya and gluten (soy sauce), sesame and milk (ghee or clarified butter); for a gluten-free version, use tamari. Good for children if seasoned sparingly and the meat is cooked through, and no honey for babies under one year old; in pregnancy, make sure the beef is cooked right through.
