Golden milk with turmeric and ginger

Golden milk with turmeric and ginger: a creamy, warming recipe with oat milk, cinnamon, pepper, maple syrup and olive oil – quick to make and gently spiced.

At a glance

Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: saucepan · chopping board · knife · sieve · grater · wooden spoon

  1. Peel the ginger and grate it finely or chop it small. Have the turmeric, pepper and cinnamon ready.
  2. Warm the olive oil in a small pan over a low heat and let the ginger infuse in it briefly until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the oat milk and add the turmeric, pepper and cinnamon. Heat everything slowly, but don't let it boil.
  4. Stir in the maple syrup and let the milk infuse gently for a few minutes. Stir now and then so the spices are evenly distributed.
  5. If you like it smoother, pour the mixture through a fine sieve. Taste once more.
  6. Pour the hot milk into a mug and serve straight away.

Good to know

When it's grey outside, this is my quiet mug in the evening. Warm, gently spiced and nicely rounded in flavour.

Swaps

Oat milk → unsweetened almond milk (often a little thinner and, depending on the product, with vitamin E); maple syrup → date syrup (also adds small amounts of minerals); fresh ginger → ground ginger (handy to keep in stock, but usually a little less fresh in flavour)

Allergens

Contains gluten unless the oat milk is certified gluten-free. For children, spice mildly and use little pepper. During pregnancy, normal kitchen amounts of ginger and turmeric are usually unremarkable – if you have symptoms or are unsure, check with your doctor.
