Put the oats in a small pan with the milk and cinnamon and stir well.
Heat everything while stirring, bring briefly to the boil and leave to cook gently over a low heat until the porridge is creamy and slightly thickened.
Meanwhile, wash the apple, core it and cut it into small pieces.
Take the porridge off the heat and leave it to rest briefly so it turns a little creamier.
If you like, stir some of the apple pieces straight into the warm porridge for extra juiciness.
To serve, spoon the porridge into a bowl, top with the remaining apple pieces and finish with honey.
Good to know
A breakfast like this feels pleasantly easy. Warm, soft and with a fresh sweetness that doesn't need much effort.
Contains milk if you make it with cow's milk; oats contain gluten unless certified gluten-free, so use oats explicitly labelled gluten-free if gluten is an issue for you. Well suited to children, but no honey in the first year of life; during pregnancy the recipe is no problem with a washed apple and pasteurised milk.
