Gluten-free mango and carrot juice with orange: a fruity juice made from mango, carrots, orange, turmeric, black pepper and linseed oil – fresh, smooth and aromatic.
You’ll need: blender · juicer · chopping board · knife
This juice tastes sunny, smooth and pleasantly spiced. It's quick to make and feels surprisingly well rounded in the glass.
Linseed oil → extra virgin olive oil (more of an everyday oil and more heat-stable) Juicing orange → pink grapefruit (less sweet, a more bitter fresh kick; grapefruit can interact with some medicines) Mango → papaya (more mildly sweet) Black pepper → fresh ginger (spicier, fresher flavour)
The recipe is naturally gluten-free; orange, pepper and turmeric can irritate a sensitive stomach, so it's best to leave out the pepper for young children. In pregnancy, kitchen amounts of turmeric are usually fine, but high-dose extracts aren't advisable.
Carrots mainly provide beta-carotene, and mango also carotenoids and some vitamin C. Both also bring natural plant compounds that are responsible for colour and aroma.
Linseed oil provides alpha-linolenic acid, a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. Here a teaspoon of it is stirred into the finished juice.
Black pepper contains piperine, which is often mentioned together with curcumin. In this juice, it mainly adds a gentle heat.
That's individual: mango and orange can bother some people because of their fruit acids and fructose. Pepper and fresh turmeric are also spicy and not pleasant for every stomach.
Fresh turmeric tastes brighter and a little more citrusy, while powder is more concentrated and easier to measure. Both are interesting in terms of nutrients, but the exact differences depend heavily on variety, processing and storage.
