Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: chopping board · knife · grater

  1. Wash the apple, rub it dry and cut it crossways into thick slices. Carefully cut the core out of the slices.
  2. Lay the apple slices out on a plate or board so they're easy to top.
  3. Spread the top of each slice with almond butter. This is easiest with a small spoon or knife.
  4. Sprinkle the coconut flakes, cacao nibs and cinnamon evenly over the almond butter. That way every slice gets some crunch and flavour.
  5. If you like it especially neat, press the toppings down lightly. Then more of them stay on the slices as you eat.
  6. Serve straight away and enjoy fresh, while the apple is still crisp.

Good to know

When you want something sweet and quick, these apple and almond butter slices are just right. Fresh, crisp and on the plate in a few minutes.

Swaps

Almond butter → cashew butter (milder flavour, also with unsaturated fatty acids). Cacao nibs → chopped walnuts (more omega-3 fatty acids). Coconut flakes → chopped hazelnuts (more vitamin E). Apple → pear (similar fibre content, often a little softer and sweeter).

Allergens

Contains tree nuts (almond butter) and, depending on your swaps, other nuts; for children, only with finely chopped toppings and suited to their age, and generally fine during pregnancy, as long as all the ingredients are fresh and there are no allergies.
