Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: saucepan · chopping board · knife

  1. Bring the water to the boil, add the teabags and leave the tea to steep for 8 min. Take out the teabags.
  2. Add the orange juice, apple juice, cinnamon stick, cloves and star anise and heat the punch over a low heat for 10 min, without letting it boil.
  3. Wash the orange in hot water and cut it into thin slices.
  4. Take out the spices, add the orange slices to the punch and pour it into heatproof glasses with handles.

Good to know

This is the children's punch you find at many German Christmas markets, just with nothing added to sweeten it. Rosehip tea gives it colour and a light tartness, and the orange juice brings the sweetness. Grown-ups like it just as much.

Swaps

Rosehip tea → fruit tea or hibiscus tea. Orange juice → mandarin juice. Apple juice → grape juice (tastes sweeter). Star anise → 1 vanilla pod.

Cooking tips

Don't let the punch boil, so the juice and spices keep their flavour. For more sweetness, steep a few dates in it for 10 min.

Storage

Once cooled, 3 days in the fridge; only warm it up, don't boil.

Allergens

Vegan, gluten-free, no milk, egg, nuts or caffeine. Suitable for children and in pregnancy.
