Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: oven · baking dish · chopping board · knife

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (160 °C fan) and lightly grease a small baking dish if needed.
  2. Mash the banana with a fork and stir it with the oats, baking powder and almond milk into an even mixture.
  3. Put half of the oat mixture into the dish and press the chocolate into the middle.
  4. Spread the rest of the mixture over the top so the chocolate is completely covered.
  5. Bake at 180 °C for 20–25 min until the top is golden brown and the centre is still soft.
  6. Let it cool briefly, then serve warm so the chocolate centre is still soft when you cut into it.

Good to know

When you want something warm in the morning, this recipe is just right. Soft outside, melted in the middle and pleasantly uncomplicated. A breakfast like this feels a little like dessert.

Swaps

Almond milk → oat milk (a few more carbs and usually a fuller flavour); chocolate → chocolate with 100% cocoa (unsweetened, much more bitter); banana → unsweetened apple purée (milder, fruity); oats → spelt flakes (similar fibre, slightly different flavour)

Allergens

Contains tree nuts (almond milk) and gluten – oats contain gluten unless certified gluten-free; depending on the chocolate, traces of milk, nuts or soya are possible. Good for children if the chocolate is chosen to suit their age, and unremarkable in pregnancy as long as all the ingredients are fresh and normally processed. Contains: gluten (oats).
