Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: oven · baking tray · chopping board · knife

  1. Wash the apples thoroughly, remove the cores and cut them into even rings.
  2. Brush the apple rings thinly on both sides with melted coconut oil and lay them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  3. Sprinkle the cinnamon evenly over the apple rings so they get a fragrant finish in the oven.
  4. Bake the apple rings in the oven at 180 °C (160 °C fan) for 15–20 min, until soft and lightly browned at the edges.
  5. Add the chopped walnuts shortly before the end of the baking time so they toast lightly without burning.
  6. Serve the baked apple rings warm, ideally straight from the tray.

Good to know

Sometimes all you need at the end of the day is something warm from the oven. These apple rings are simple, smell wonderful and come to the table without much effort.

Swaps

Walnuts → pecans (similarly nutty, slightly milder). Coconut oil → olive oil (mainly monounsaturated fats). Apples → pears (also provide fibre, slightly softer in the oven).

Allergens

Contains tree nuts (walnuts). Well suited to children in a soft form – just chop the nuts finely to suit their age. In pregnancy, the recipe is usually fine.
