Ingredients

Method

You’ll need: oven · baking tray · chopping board · knife · mixing bowl

  1. Preheat the oven to 160 °C (140 °C fan) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Wash the apple, remove the core and cut it into small cubes.
  3. Stir the apple purée, honey, melted coconut oil, cinnamon and salt together in a bowl until smooth.
  4. Add the oats, nuts and apple cubes and mix everything thoroughly until the dry ingredients are evenly coated.
  5. Spread the mixture loosely on the tray and bake at 160 °C for 18–20 min, until the granola is lightly golden brown. Turn it carefully once halfway through, then leave to cool completely.
  6. Serve the granola on its own or with natural yoghurt, skyr or a little extra apple purée.

Good to know

This granola is simple, cosy and quick to make. The smell of apple and cinnamon instantly makes the kitchen feel a bit more homely.

Swaps

Almonds → walnuts (more omega-3 fatty acids); Honey → apple purée (fruit instead of honey, moist binding); Coconut oil → ghee (buttery flavour, heat-stable; contains milk); Natural yoghurt → skyr (more protein per serving)

Allergens

Contains gluten (oats, unless labelled gluten-free), plus tree nuts (almonds or walnuts) and, depending on what you serve it with, milk. Well suited to children in small, crunchy pieces; in pregnancy, it's fine with fresh ingredients and careful hygiene. Honey isn't suitable for babies under 1 year old.
