Method

You’ll need: microwave · chopping board · knife

  1. Wash the apples, remove the cores and cut them into thin, triangular slices.
  2. Spread the apple slices loosely on a flat plate so they overlap slightly.
  3. Gently warm the peanut butter until it is soft and pourable.
  4. Melt the dark chocolate gently over a bain-marie or briefly in the microwave until smooth.
  5. Drizzle the peanut butter and dark chocolate over the apples and sprinkle the chia seeds on top.
  6. Serve the apple nachos straight away while the apples are fresh and the chocolate is still slightly soft.

Good to know

When you want something sweet but not heavy, this recipe is just right. Crunchy, creamy and with a hint of dessert.

Swaps

Peanut butter → almond butter (more vitamin E). Dark chocolate → cacao nibs (less sugar, more cocoa). Chia seeds → ground linseed (fibre and omega-3 fatty acids). Apples → pears (similar fibre content, slightly softer texture).

Allergens

Contains peanuts and, depending on the chocolate, traces of milk, tree nuts or soya; for children serve thin slices that are easy to chew, and during pregnancy the ingredients are unremarkable in normal amounts as long as you tolerate them well.
