AI at SmarTasty – explained

SmarTasty uses artificial intelligence (AI) in some places – and deliberately not in others. This page shows exactly where, so you know what you’re looking at.

Images

Most images of our recipes and ingredients are AI-generated illustrations. They show how a dish or an ingredient can look – they aren’t photos of real cooking and not exactly what you’ll get when you cook it.

Texts

Recipes and articles are partly written with the help of AI – for drafts, wording or frequently asked questions. The English texts are translated from German with the help of AI and checked by scripts against our glossary and house rules. Daniel Lehner is responsible for everything that’s published. There’s currently no external expert review.

Features that use AI

These features use language models from OpenAI:

The results are created automatically, can contain mistakes and don’t replace advice from a doctor or dietitian. Check recognised foods and estimated nutrition before you save them.

Before you use the coach or Photo Scan on a device for the first time, we ask whether your details may be sent to OpenAI for this (processing also takes place in the USA). For the coach, which also uses health data such as weight or blood values, we ask for your explicit consent. Which data that is is set out in the privacy policy.

Your consents

Below you can see which AI features you’ve agreed to on this device and withdraw your consent with one tap. An email to kontakt@smartasty.de works too.

No AI: Health Score and tags

The Health Score and the diet tags (for example low carb, vegan or gluten-free) aren’t estimated by AI. They come from fixed, transparent rules based on ingredients and nutrition.

Machine-readable labels

In addition to the visible note, we label AI images in a machine-readable way where we can: in the structured data of our recipe pages and, step by step, in the image files themselves (the IPTC value “trainedAlgorithmicMedia”, the standard for AI-generated media).
